This work depicts the connection between my Grandmother and her best friend, Gail. My grandmother passed the day after her best friend Gail did because she simply could not live without her. While her death has caused me great sadness, I have found beauty and hope in their connection and wanted to depict the depth of their bond. Each changing button is supposed to represent a different phase of self, which is why, in the end, when she returns to Gail, she returns to the white button where she was most herself, which was when she was laying with Gail under the red sheet.
